Rehome update: Dude enjoying retirement in Wales

We love to get messages about our former racehorses and today we heard from Vanessa about the wonderful 'Dude'.

A very nice gelding by Ulysses, Dude didn't have the speed to race and so we decided to make him available for rehoming.

Dude made the long journey to south-west Wales and he is now loving life with Vanessa and her family who have officially registered his name as 'Seren Y Ficerdy' which means 'Star of the Vicarage' in Welsh.

Dude has settled in beautifully with the Martin family.

"It’s been a while so thought I would give a little Dude update," says Vanessa.

"He's doing absolutely great and progressing nicely! He’s found his passion in jumping and has now been to his first show doing a round of 60 and 70. No placing for him this time but he behaved impeccably and enjoyed every moment."

"He really is the sweetest boy loving cuddles and Welsh cwtches. He is the kindest and gentlest boy with my little girl who is only two."

I've managed to end up with two horses now," continues Vanessa. "A retired racehorse of ours has come to me! You know what it's like so I have a young girl who helps me with both in fairness and she loves him also! You honestly can't not as he is such a sweetheart! My daughter met Dude when she was just a few months old and they have always had an amazing connection."

"I hope (and dream) that one day she will get the chance to ride him herself."
