Jaunty Flight enjoying life after the paddocks

Last year we rehomed ex-racehorse and ex-broodmare Jaunty Flight. In May 2024 we loaned a mare called Poco who became foster mare to little Connie after her dam, Chip N Pin, died whilst giving birth.

Katey was the wonderful lady from whom we loaned Poco and in a second act of kindness she offered to give a forever home to 22-year-old Jaunty in the north-east of England.

Jaunty Flight was an excellent racehorse in her day. She won six races under rules, including a Listed race at Newbury, as well as two point-to-points.

Now 23 years young Jaunty is loving life after her careers as a racehorse and as a mum.

"Someone has been thoroughly enjoying the milder weather!" said Katey today. "Just 20 mins before I took these pictures she forgot her age and took her young charge on a gallop for three laps of the field. The lady can still shift!"

"I can't wait until the weather evens out and we can be rugless. She's so contented, it's wonderful to see. She's really established herself in the herd now and is on level with Poco, they seem to be jointly managing the younger mares and have a healthy respect for one another. It's such a nice, settled group."




Last year our rehoming programme found homes for three older broodmares, as 19-year-old best buddies Flower Appeal and Choral Singer were also rehomed to a fruit farm in Bedfordshire where they are now cared for by Elisabeth. In additon former broodmares Fire In The Rain and Capla Lass were also found homes.

There's something for all of the horses to do after racing and broodmare duties.

It's our job to find that new life for them.
