Prime Property ran better over seven furlongs, only beaten eight lengths and for the first time in months she had horses behind her too. Dropped to six she finished second, after which we entered her in the Phil Bull Biography Handicap at Pontefract, again over six. Running from out of the handicap Martin Dwyer put up a couple of pounds overweight on her, as she beat Lynda Ramsdens's Kieren Fallon ridden Captain Carat by a neck. She was getting about two and a half stone from the runner up but it was a day to remember as she had finally got her head in front. I held my hands up that day. Alan had been a hundred percent correct, and had worked out everything about his horse. Owners who are also enthusiasts will leave no stone unturned in finding the winning formula. Alan Black, and before him his father George, were the perfect enthusiast owners, and how I enjoyed training for the generations of the family over the years. Eventually Prime Property retired to the paddocks where she bred several winners, the most notable being Middlethorpe, a six times winner on the flat and six times winner over hurdles, as well as hurdlers King's Square and Property Zone, who all won in the colours of their owner and breeder. |
